Can you prepare for how to 'argue' (yes, you will) effectively? Or for blending different family backgrounds? What about handling family finances? Too often we think the old Beatles lyric, "love is all you need," is true. Is it?
Heartkeep offers several Marriage Prep sessions before your wedding takes place. As facilitators of the Prepare/Enrich assessment tool, we provide engaged couples with the opportunity to take an online in-depth survey. This survey highlights strong areas of compatibility as well as reveals places in which you may need to grow as a couple. Together, we will work on these growth areas, assist you in building good communication skills that will be used throughout your marriage, and help you integrate the principles necessary to get off to a good start.
What if your marriage is showing the troubling signs of a fraying relationship? Maybe the starry-eyed love you started out with is barely a ‘like’ on many days. It’s just not fun anymore. Maybe you never really knew each other, you think. Is it too far gone? Some would say to just call it quits.
DON’T! Don’t. There is always hope for restoration of a damaged relationship. God’s power to restore is far greater than Satan’s power to destroy. If your marriage, is struggling, Heartkeep desires to help you deal with the issues that have come into your lives so that, together as a couple, mending can take place and you can move into a brighter future.
As we all acknowledge, there is no guarantee even the best upbringing and guidance will prevent a child from falling into the trap and downward spiral of substance abuse. There are, however, preventive steps and maintenance - ‘hedge tending’ - that parents and grandparents can employ as barriers of protection against what’s become an all too common problem for many families. In Bible times, thorny rows of hedges were planted to protect property and livestock from wild animals and give security against trespassers who might steal. Children need every hedge of protection that can be placed around them to guard against the challenges today’s culture presents.
Through a one hour workshop, the Hodsons offer principles and pointers, including insights gained from those in substance abuse recovery, to help build and maintain effective hedges. This workshop serves well for parent/teacher organizations, churches, small groups, civic groups, as well as individual sessions by request.
Recognizing the extent of the region’s problem with substance use disorder and the overwhelming opioid crisis, the Hodsons serve as volunteer mentors and encouragers with the Knott Co Drug Court Program using a variety of approaches. They also host a weekly faith-based group meeting covering various topics related to recovery. These outreaches take place at Heartkeep’s Hindman office.
They are also available for individual contact with those whose families are impacted by substance use disorder with a ‘listening ear’ and prayer support.
